Elizabeth Hoover - Homeschooling Preschoolers

Hi! I am Elizabeth Hoover, a freelance writer, editor, and events consultant based in Houston, Texas. Absolutely the greatest thing about what I do is that it gives me an excuse to research and write about all the things I love; one of which is homeschooling. I am very excited to be a part of PreschoolRock.com and to have the opportunity to share my experience with other homeschool parents.

Homeschooling Experience

When my oldest child was three, I caught the homeschool bug. I wasn’t sure what it meant, but I sensed it would be the direction for me. After enrolling in an early childhood education class, I was hooked. I knew I wanted to be a primary influence towards my children’s love of learning. So, I dedicated the next several years to homeschooling my four children.

My greatest memories are the times we all snuggled on the couch to finish a great novel, or worked on our famous time line. Our little school persevered through the ups and downs of life, including disappointments and crises. Through it all, I have gained a boatload of knowledge and, hopefully, a bit of wisdom about homeschooling. On this website, you will gain the benefits of my experience; both the success and failures.

My children have all graduated, but I have preschool grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dozens of young preschool friends that keep me on my toes and allow this topic to stay fresh for me.

Homeschooling Assumptions

There are many different philosophical streams among homeschoolers today and the following is some of what I believe…

•  I am a passionate believer that education starts from the womb and that parents are a child’s first and most important teachers.

•  Home education is not a miracle to produce perfect children. It is merely one educational option among many that parents can choose today.

•  Children should never be forced to fit into a pre-designed mold. It is our job to find out who they are and what techniques, tools, and styles will serve them best.

Other Endeavors

When I am not writing about homeschooling preschoolers, you may find me creating newsletters, catering a wedding, or writing about my other interests such as faith, women’s issues, music, and culture.
